Digitising for Embroidery
To embroider your design we must first digitise your design or text in order to produce a jacquard (which is essentially a digital template for the machine to follow).
The cost of the jacquard is dependant on the complexity of your design and amount of stitches. Once we have received and reviewed your artwork we will be able to quote for the jacquard cost and the embroidery cost.
If you cannot provide us with a digital file please let us know. We can probably scan a print or even an object if required.
WE DO OFFER A ONE-OFF EMBROIDERY SERVICE.
Print Artwork
To print your design we must have the artwork as a vectored Illustrator file. What this means is that that the artwork is built (actually drawn) in a vector or object based program such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw or Macromedia Freehand. When providing such files it is important to convert fonts to curves or create outlines for all text used. Each object in the vector file can then be selected and individually manipulated independently from the rest of the image.
The cost of the artwork is dependant on the complexity of your design and how large you would like the print. Once we have received and reviewed your artwork we will be able to quote for the artwork and printing costs.
If you cannot provide us with an illustrator file please let us know. We can probably use a different type of file, scan an image or create the vector file if required.
We store all artwork and jacquards that we create, so you will be able to use the same design and size on a subsequent order. Please note that artwork may have to be recreated or altered if you wish to make significant changes to the design’s size. Different materials may also require alteration due to the weight or stretch of the fabric.
Printing Methods
At Embroidery London we have three options for our clients depending on the quantities of the order.
Screen printed t-shirts will be the most familiar to customers and are available to clients ordering OVER 50 garments. The finish on these shirts is slightly rough and a little rubbery to the feel from the plasticol inks. Each colour on the shirt requires it’s own screen to be made which makes it quite expensive to do which is why we have a minimum order quantity.
Transfer Printing is available for one-off orders perfect for a birthday present, a hen or stag do, small business and charity events. This involves taking a high resolution image and printing the image onto commercial quality transfer paper. We can print images in most formats including BMP,TIF, GIF, AI, Jpeg. The quality of the image produced is directly related to the quality of the image supplied so it is important to supply a quality image. Once the image is on the transfer paper it is then taken and applied using a heat press and silicone release paper to the item of clothing. Leaving a smooth, shiny, good quality finish that will last longer than most prints and will out live the t-shirt.
For more complicated designs, we use a process called Cad Cut Printing (also known as Vinyl Cut). Vinyl Printing is available for orders from 1 too 100 pieces.
This process starts with the logo or text needing an outline added. This is done using Adobe Illustrator. The design is then input direct into a digital cutter which electronically cuts the design on to a single colour sheet of flock, foil or vinyl. The uncut areas are then removed by hand. This process is known as “weeding”. The cut panels are then taken and are applied using a heat press and silicone paper.
